This rare and elegant cabochon spinel exhibits the optical phenomenon called asterism, which is a star like pattern that forms on the surface of a gemstone when light strikes the needle like inclusions within the crystal structure. Any gem exhibiting a good asterism is considered prized, a spinel is no exception and is considered particularly rare. This blue/grey spinel of 3.58ct was selected by one of our gem enthusiast customers and has been set into a solid 18ct yellow gold ring which perfectly showcases such a beautiful gem.
