Very unusual and beautiful. This Shakudo stick pin is dated circa 1890's. Shakudo is an alloy of copper and gold which is treated to form an indigo-black patina. Most commonly used throughout history by the Japanese to decorate or construct Katana (Samurai sword) fittings, such as Tsuba (hand guards) & Menkuki & Kozuka (handles of small blades & ornaments). It has also been used throughout history to decorate and craft jewellery, as is evident with this lovely Japanese fan style stick pin.
